SHREVEPORT - Surround yourself with the sounds, smells, sights and tastes of India with LSU Shreveport's India Night on Sept. 25.

The event features the flavors, colors and rhythms of India highlighted by Venu Naad, which translates to "music of the flute."

Flute maestro Ronu Majumdar and maestro Harshad Kanetkar on the tabla drums are the cultural centerpiece of the night.

"India Night is an opportunity for students, faculty, and the community at large to experience Indian culture firsthand," said Dr. Sanjay Menon, dean of graduate studies and director of the India Studies program at LSUS. " While many are familiar with yoga, meditation, and Bollywood films, they may be less familiar with the classical dances and music of India.

"They may be somewhat familiar with Tikka Masala and Naan bread, but may be less familiar with the rich regional cuisines of India. India Night 2026 is an enchanting gala evening that features an Indian classical music concert, mouthwatering national and regional delicacies, as well as an ambiance that transports you to the magical land of India with its vibrant colors and warm hospitality."

The Sept. 25 event begins at 5:30 and runs until 8 p.m., featuring food and drink, the concert, and other various interactions with Indian culture.

Tickets for India Night 2026 are $125 each or $800 for a table of eight.

Proceeds from the event benefit LSUS's India Studies program.

"The primary mission of the LSUS India Studies program is to increase awareness of India and all things Indian at LSUS and the Shreveport-Bossier community at large," Menon said. "Past activities have included special presentations on India in schools and other venues, film festivals, essay contests on India-related topics, workshops on India for social studies teachers, and invited cultural performances.

"The program also supports university-level courses on Indian culture. In the spring, the India Studies program hosts Holi, the Festival of Colors, which is free and open to the community, and in the fall, it hosts a cricket tournament that is also free and open to the public."

India Night took its current form in 2007 with an Indian classical dance recital and has become a fixture on the Shreveport-Bossier social calendar.
