Stony Brook to Host 37th Annual Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

Stony Brook University will host its 37th annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration throughout the month of October, following the theme of Unidos Somos Más: Together We Are More.

Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of Latinos in the United States. From science, medicine and the arts to education, public service and business, Latino communities have helped shape our nation and continue to enrich our campus and our region.

The festivities on campus begin with the Hispanic Heritage Month Opening Celebration and Street Fair on Wednesday, October 7, from noon to 2 pm on the Student Activities Center Plaza. A procession of Latin American flags, led by Wolfie and the Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band, will be followed by the university's official proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month.

The celebration will also include cultural performances, activity stations hosted by Latino student clubs and organizations, live music, food and giveaways. All Stony Brook faculty, staff, students, and university partners are welcome to attend. The fair is co-sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement (DICE), and Diversity, Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives (DI3).
