Hammes serving as owner’s representative for UCHealth Memorial Hospital North expansion in Colorado Springs

MILWAUKEE, WI - October 29, 2026 - Hammes, a national real estate consulting, development, investment and management firm, celebrated the groundbreaking of a $463 million expansion project at UCHealth Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hammes is serving as UCHealth's owner's representative and project manager for the major expansion, which will increase the hospital's capacity and support the growing healthcare needs of the community.

The expansion includes more than 300,000 square feet of new construction, including a six-story inpatient tower, eight new operating rooms and an expanded emergency department with 10 new CDU units. The project will increase the hospital's capacity from 140 to 190 beds, initially adding 34 medical-surgical beds and 14 intensive care unit beds. To support the additional capacity, the expansion will also include a new six-level parking garage with approximately 875 spaces for patients, visitors and staff.

Approximately 45% of the new space will be built out for immediate use, while the remaining space will be shelled to accommodate future growth.

The project also includes a 57,000-square-foot renovation of the existing hospital, encompassing a renovated main lobby, pharmacy and an expanded laboratory, kitchen and cafeteria.

The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 13. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2029.

As UCHealth's owner's representative, Hammes is providing project management leadership and coordination throughout the project lifecycle. Hammes is supporting UCHealth in managing the project's scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality and stakeholder coordination, while helping align the work of the design and construction teams with UCHealth's operational objectives.

"Expanding an active hospital requires a careful balance between advancing the project and maintaining uninterrupted patient care," said Justin Franklin, Hammes Healthcare Vice President. "Our team is focused on proactively identifying and managing risks and working closely with UCHealth and the project team to minimize disruption to current hospital operations. Through disciplined project management and informed decision-making, we will help UCHealth deliver the Memorial Hospital North project safely, efficiently and in alignment with its goals for the community."

Project partners include JE Dunn as the construction manager and Perkins&Will as the architect.
