Sutter Roseville teams celebrate the announcement of their Pathways designation.
ROSEVILLE, Calif. - At Sutter Roseville Medical Center, a wave of celebration swept through the hospital this September as nurses and staff marked a rare and remarkable achievement: earning the Pathway to Excellence with Distinction™ designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This honor is more than a milestone. It's a powerful reflection of a workplace and culture where nurses and care teams feel heard, supported and inspired to lead.

The Pathway to Excellence designation is the gold standard for healthy work environments in healthcare. It recognizes healthcare environments that reflect six key standards: shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development. But the "with Distinction" level - achieved by only a select few - goes even further. It's based on direct validation from frontline staff, making it one of the most authentic endorsements a hospital can receive by its nursing and care teams.
At Sutter Roseville, that endorsement came through loud and clear with an 81% response rate. Well above the required 60%, frontline teams overwhelmingly affirmed Sutter Roseville is a place where they feel empowered, valued and proud to work.
A Shared Commitment, A Collective Achievement
This success didn't happen overnight. It was the result of years of intentional investment in people and culture. The nurses and care teams at Sutter Roseville have led the way in creating mentorship programs, launching well-being initiatives and building systems to support one another through challenges. While this is a nursing designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Sutter Roseville recognizes that all care teams contribute to a culture promoting the six key standards.
"Receiving this designation is an incredible testament to the culture our entire team continues to build here at Sutter Roseville," said Catherine Turner, chief nurse executive at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. "Our entire care team is deeply rooted in Sutter Health's mission of caring for our patients first and people always, and this designation is a tangible recognition of their dedication to our mission and the culture we've built at Sutter Roseville."
Excellence Driven by People
"What sets Sutter Roseville apart is not just its policies, but the passion of its people. Our care teams here don't just show up for patients - they show up for each other," said Tammy Powers, chief executive officer at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. "They are encouraged to innovate, to speak up and to lead. That culture of mutual support and continuous improvement directly impacts patient care, creating a ripple effect of excellence across our hospital and care teams."
The Pathway with Distinction™ designation affirms what Sutter Roseville care teams already know: this is more than a workplace. It's a community. A place where caregivers grow and make a difference, together.
