The U.S. Department of Energy recently released updates to a greenhouse-gas-emissions model, called 45Z-CF Greet, which will be used to determine allocation of a crucial biofuel tax credit.
This update reaffirms changes made to the credit in President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The latest changes represent a step in the right direction for biofuel advocacy groups, like the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), that have advocated for the changes.
"We are pleased to see that DOE has listened to our feedback and made updates to the model that track with the legislative language that was approved by Congress," said Jed Bower, an Ohio farmer and president of NCGA. "Yet there is still more work to be done. We fully expect the Department of Energy to issue an additional update recognizing a wide-range of on-farm regenerative agriculture practices"
Corn growers are looking to the aviation sector as the next frontier in corn sales. It has the potential to help address concerns by aviation officials while promising to boost corn demand as farmers across the country struggle with lower corn prices and higher input costs.
