Application Process for Invasive Plant Species Management Program Opens Sept. 15

Applications will be available beginning Monday, September 15, 2025, for the Loudoun County Invasive Plant Species Management Program. The program, which is administered by Loudoun County and the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District, offers guidance and funding to eligible landowners to promote and implement invasive plant removal projects.

Landowners may receive up to $50,000 for projects. Once funded, program participants will monitor and maintain project areas for the duration of the three-year project with ongoing support from the program.

Eligibility

The program is open to property owners in Loudoun who have invasive plants on their property, including homeowner association-managed property. State and federally-owned lands are not eligible. All work must follow best management practices to protect native species and prevent erosion. Reimbursement is provided upon verification of completed work.

Project costs that may be reimbursed include contractor fees for invasive plant removal and revegetation, design costs, installation of educational signage and follow-up maintenance by contractors during the three-year monitoring period.

How to Apply/Information Session

The first round of applications will be accepted from September 15 through September 26, 2025, with a new application cycle opening approximately every two months. The completed application must include a project overview form, a cost estimate from a contractor who meets the county's requirements and supporting documentation. Cost estimates should include any design fees associated with the project. The application form will be available at loudoun.gov/InvasivePlants.

Loudoun County is hosting a virtual information session September 15 on the online application process and will include a demonstration of how to submit the application through LandMARC, the county's online land management system.

  • Virtual Information Session: Monday, September 15, 2025, 10- 11:00 a.m. Log-on information for the meeting is online at loudoun.gov/InvasivePlants.

More Information

The Invasive Plant Species Management Program, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors in June 2025 following a successful pilot, aims to promote awareness of and removal of non-native invasive plant species that are negatively impacting the local economy and ecosystems. The program is also intended to empower residents and property owners to identify, control and eradicate invasive plants.
