Rep. Anissa Jones Issues Statement in Response to Governor Kemp’s State of the State Address

ATLANTA - State Representative Anissa Jones (D-Macon) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Brian Kemp's State of the State Address:

"Economic growth must translate into stability for working families. That's our North Star.

"Affordable and accessible healthcare, affordable housing and utilities and quality education with affordable childcare are not extras-they are essentials.

"Right now, a two-income family often needs a third job just to pay for childcare. Parents should never have to choose between keeping their job and caring for their children. And we know this: if a child is hungry, they cannot learn. As Democrats, we believe meeting basic needs is how opportunity begins.

"That's why our caucus will work together to ensure every child has access to free lunch at school, families can afford childcare and communities can rely on strong schools and healthcare. When families are supported, Georgia's economy doesn't just grow-it works for everyone.

"As we grow, we have to make sure working families can afford healthcare, housing, childcare and education. Economic success should reach rural and urban communities alike, from Macon-Bibb to Warner Robins and across our state.

"I look forward to working with the governor and my colleagues to make sure this session delivers practical solutions-good jobs, quality schools, accessible healthcare and real opportunity for every Georgian. Growth is important, but shared prosperity is the goal."

Representative Anissa Jones represents the citizens of District 143, which includes portions of Bibb and Houston counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Interstate Cooperation and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
