U.S. Senate Passes Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock’s Resolution Commending Soldiers & Civilian Personnel Who Responded to Mass Shooting at Ft. Stewart One Year Ago

Fort Stewart, Ga. - U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are commending the soldiers and civilian personnel who responded to the shooting on Ft. Stewart on August 6, 2025.

Last night, the U.S. Senate passed Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock's resolution commending the soldiers and civilian personnel who responded to the mass shooting at Ft. Stewart on August 6, 2025, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the tragic incident.

On August 6, 2025, five soldiers were wounded at Ft. Stewart before the shooter was stopped by fellow servicemembers.

"Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Senate recognizes and honors the victims of the shooting; commends the actions of the Fort Stewart soldiers that responded to subdue the shooter; commends the bravery of the first responders; acknowledges those that continue to support the Fort Stewart community in the wake of the shooting, including therapists and religious leaders; and expresses support for the victims, their families, and the Fort Stewart community," Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock's resolution reads.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect Georgia's servicemembers.

In July, Sen. Ossoff released a new report with first-hand accounts of substandard housing conditions at Ft. Benning and Ft. Stewart, including reports of lead exposure affecting newborn health, severe mold contamination leading to emergency room visits, flooding in living areas, and more.

In June, Sen. Ossoff introduced the Restore Military Families' Voices Act to protect Georgia servicemembers and military families from being silenced by banning housing contractors from requesting that military families sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).

In May, Sen. Ossoff secured a commitment from the U.S. Army to improve privatized housing and hold contractors accountable during a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects.
