Risch Statement on State Department Human Trafficking Report

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the State Department's newly released Trafficking in Persons Report.

"The United States has always been the leader in the global fight to combat and monitor human trafficking and, under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Rubio, will continue to be a champion for victims of this truly evil practice."

"I'm pleased to see Secretary Rubio's newly released country reports which highlight our efforts to prevent trafficking at home and abroad.

"Every country across the globe must recommit to fighting human trafficking, increase funding for their own national resources, and enact legislation to actually punish traffickers and support victims.

"With these country reports, we all have a new opportunity to recommit to this important effort.

"My bill with Senator Shaheen, the International Trafficking Victims Protection and Reauthorization Act (ITVPRA), would double down on these efforts and provide Secretary Rubio with the tools needed to further combat human trafficking and I look forward to its enactment."

Background:

Human trafficking affects an estimated 50 million people worldwide, generating over $150 billion annually for criminal networks while devastating victims through forced labor, exploitation, cyber scams, and modern slavery.
