UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to visit Helsinki

Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom Yvette Cooper will visit Helsinki on 14 January and meet Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. In addition to discussing bilateral matters, the ministers will visit the Finnish Border Guard patrol vessel Turva to to be briefed the security situation in the Baltic Sea.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will discuss current bilateral affairs between Finland and the UK as well as foreign and security policy matters. The main topics will be Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, support for Ukraine, Arctic matters, transatlantic relations and European security.

"The United Kingdom is a key strategic partner and ally for Finland. We are working closely together to ensure the security of Europe and the Baltic Sea, support Ukraine, strengthen transatlantic relations, address Russia's hybrid operations and maintain sanctions against Russia. We want to further deepen our good, multisectoral cooperation and strengthen our trade relations," Foreign Minister Valtonen says.

While in Finland, Foreign Secretary Cooper will also meet President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.
