This fall, kinesiology major Angela Escobar '27 served as an assistant soccer coach for Verde Leaders, a youth development program hosted by Austin FC's 4ATX Foundation. Verde Leaders teaches Austin-area middle school students social-emotional learning, leadership, and communication skills through free after-school soccer training. In her role, Escobar coached students during scrimmages and taught drills that connected soccer to social-emotional learning. She encouraged students to take an active part in their community and provided them with the hope needed to achieve their goals, all while building crucial skills toward achieving her goal of becoming a professional athletic trainer after graduation.
