The Climate Leadership Certificate is accepting applications for winter 2026 - spring 2027

Make a difference in your last two years at Western and prepare to lead environmental work after graduation!

The Climate Leadership Certificate equips students with the essential skills to integrate sustainability into any professional field.

Sustainability and climate change are interdisciplinary, and students from all majors are encouraged to apply! There is no prior experience required.

Students applying must be in junior or senior standing AND be enrolled at Western through Spring 2027.

The program includes about 12 credits of hands-on learning, ranging from climate solutions to sustainability and leadership principles. Students will complete a self-designed senior project and a paid summer internship with community organizations and climate professionals. You will work on projects related to:

  • Health and well-being,
  • Economic Development,
  • Energy and waste,
  • Food systems & more!

Gain leadership skills through experience.

  • Lead hands-on sustainability projects on and off campus.
  • Learn in Whatcom County and the Methow Valley communities.
