Remarks by Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister

"The Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, through participating in events like this and partnerships with organizations like the Bahamas Crisis Centre, continues to advocate for survivors and strengthen our national response to gender-based violence. These efforts are making a difference, but there is still more work to do.

This is not just a social issue. It is a moral one.

As people of faith, we cannot turn away from those who suffer. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 31:8-9: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." Faith must move our hearts, but also move our hands and feet.

So, now that we've talked about awareness What does Action look like?

Action looks like a neighbour who checks in when they hear shouting next door. Not out of gossip, but out of care.

Action looks like teachers who notice when a child's behaviour shifts, and takes the time to ask, "Are you okay?"

Action looks like men mentoring other men to express strength through respect, not domination.

And yes, action looks like each of us, every Bahamian, saying "no more!"

The home is the heartbeat of our nation. If our homes are broken, our communities cannot be whole. We can see the effects of broken homes, families, and spirits.

We have to step in. To create safe homes, we must begin with education, empathy, and equity. We must teach our sons and daughters that love is not control. We must teach our sons and daughters that their worth is not negotiable. It begins there; with our young people. Then, we must remind each other that peace is possible. But it begins with us.

I envision a Bahamas where every child grows up hearing laughter instead of arguments. Where every woman feels protected, not powerless. Where every man finds pride in nurturing, not in intimidation. And where our communities stand united, not divided, by the work of healing.

Let us carry this workshop's message beyond these church walls. Let us become advocates in our neighbourhoods, mentors in our communities, and protectors in our homes.

Because awareness opens our eyes, but action changes lives.

Let us stay in this fight against Domestic Violence and For peace and healing.

Together, let us build safe homes and stronger communities for all."
