Fire Station 20 Welcomes New ARFF Rig

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the San José Fire Department, San José Mineta International Airport, and City leaders celebrated the arrival of a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) apparatus, Engine 20 Delta, at Fire Station 20 with a traditional push-in ceremony.

Engine 20 Delta is a state-of-the-art aircraft rescue vehicle equipped with a high-reach turret nozzle and thermal-imaging camera to help firefighters operate in darkness, severe weather, and smoke. It carries more than 3,100 gallons of water and hundreds of pounds of firefighting agents designed to quickly tackle the unique challenges of aircraft emergencies.

Fire Station 20 has three ARFF vehicles in service, with a fourth available as a reserve when one of the frontline vehicles is undergoing maintenance. The station also houses a rescue medic that responds to medical emergencies throughout the surrounding community.

Engine 20 Delta is also the first SJFD ARFF vehicle to receive modernized emissions-reduction equipment, helping make it a safer and more environmentally responsible addition to our fleet.

Thank you to the City of San José elected officials and dignitaries who joined us to celebrate this important investment in the safety of our Airport and community!
