Our Canadian team advised on the M&A Deal of the Year at the 2026 Canadian Law Awards.
The awards were announced at an in-person gala in Toronto on May 5, celebrating the nation's leading law firms, in-house legal teams and lawyers for their achievements and outstanding work in more than 25 categories across multiple disciplines.
M&A Deal of the Year - Strathcona Resources' hostile takeover bid and Cenovus Energy's acquisition of MEG Energy
Our Calgary office led on advising the special committee of the board of directors of MEG Energy Corp. in connection with the acquisition of MEG by Cenovus Energy Inc. for C$7.9 billion. This transaction was the culmination of the strategic review process undertaken by the special committee following the unsolicited takeover bid made by Strathcona Resources Ltd. to acquire all outstanding MEG common shares.
