Event Prompts Traffic Shift in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is advising drivers of upcoming temporary traffic impacts on US 27 (SR 29) near the Rhea County line to facilitate safe and efficient access to the 2026 Hamilton County Fair. This modified traffic pattern will be in place from Thursday, November 5, through Sunday, November 8, 2026.

To help manage increased traffic volumes associated with the event, traffic will be divided into designated lanes for fair attendees and through traffic in both directions.

US 27 (SR 29) North:

  • Fair traffic will use the left lane.
  • Through traffic will use the right lane.

US 27 (SR 29) South:

  • Fair traffic will use the right lane.
  • Through traffic will use the left lane.

Motorists are encouraged to pay close attention to all posted signs, traffic control devices, and directional signage while traveling through the area. Law enforcement officers will direct traffic at the intersection serving the fairgrounds and will be on site throughout the event to assist drivers and help ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles entering and exiting the fairgrounds. Drivers should use caution, expect possible delays, and allow additional travel time when traveling through the area during fair operations. TDOT appreciates the public's patience and hopes everyone enjoys a safe visit to the Hamilton County Fair.

As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT's motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departing. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.

Tennessee's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations may result in up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
