USDA Announces $3.8 Million for Sewer Improvements in Jackson County Community

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia today announced $3.8 million to improve sewer infrastructure for the Village of Springport in Jackson County.

"This project benefits not just Springport, but also neighboring communities in rural Jackson County," said Restuccia. "Under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, we are making a generational investment in protecting Michigan's precious water resources for future generations."

Springport will use a $2,107,000 loan and $1,769,000 grant to enhance the municipal wastewater collection/treatment system. This will include replacement of an existing sewage lift station with a wet-well, upgrading controls, generators and monitoring (SCADA) equipment as well as making repairs to the wastewater treatment facility that will address cited deficiencies identified by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. It will serve 776 residential customers, and total project cost is $3,876,000.

USDA is administering the funding through Rural Development's Water and Wastewater Environmental Programs . The Water and Wastewater Disposal program helps rural communities fund clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to rural households and businesses.
