The Marion County Board of County Commissioners opened its April 21 meeting by recognizing individuals, volunteers, and initiatives that make a lasting impact across the community. Through a series of proclamations and presentations, the commission highlighted the importance of service, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement.
Marion Senior Services Volunteer Recognition
Volunteers with Marion Senior Services were recognized for the essential role they play in supporting local seniors. Simply put, these volunteers help make sure older adults in our community are not alone. This amazing team delivers meals, offers support with each interaction, and helps seniors maintain independence and dignity every day.
National Day of Prayer - May 7
The county commission recognized the National Day of Prayer, emphasizing the value of coming together as a community. A part of our nation's history since the First Continental Congress in 1775, this day was approved by joint resolution by Congress in 1958, then officially set aside as the first Thursday in May in 1988.
Animal Services Volunteer Appreciation Week - April 19-25
Commissioners honored Animal Services volunteers who dedicate their time to caring for animals in need. These individuals help feed, comfort, and socialize pets, giving them a better chance at finding a permanent home and supporting a more compassionate community.
Soil and Water Conservation Stewardship Week - April 26-May 3
The county commission highlighted the importance of protecting Marion County's natural resources. In everyday terms, this means taking care of the land and water that support our farms, springs, and way of life-ensuring they remain healthy for generations to come.
Litter Awareness Week - April 19-25
Marion County declared Litter Awareness Week, focusing on a simple but important message: keeping our community clean is everyone's responsibility. Reducing litter helps protect wildlife, improves neighborhoods, and preserves the natural beauty residents enjoy every day.
Landscape Architecture Month - April 2026
The Board recognized the professionals who help shape the look and function of our community. From parks to roadways, landscape architects play a key role in designing spaces that are not only attractive, but also safe, sustainable, and built to serve the public.
Employee Service Awards
The County honored employees for their years of service, recognizing the dedication it takes to serve the public day in and day out. These individuals represent the backbone of county government, providing the services residents rely on every day.
