December 19, 2025 - Defence Stories
Today, the Government announced changes to the senior ranks of the federal public service. This includes the appointment of Christiane (Chris) Fox as Deputy Minister of National Defence, to take effect early in the New Year.
Ms. Fox brings with her a wealth of senior leadership experience in the federal public service. She is currently Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council Office, Associate Secretary to Cabinet, and Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. Prior to these roles, she was Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and Deputy Minister of Indigenous Services.
As Chief of the Defence Staff, I look forward to working closely with Ms. Fox as we navigate an unprecedented period of change and opportunity-her leadership will be critical as we advance key priorities across the Defence Team. I would also like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the entire Canadian Armed Forces, to thank Deputy Minister Beck for her exceptional leadership and partnership, and to wish her every success in her upcoming retirement.
As Deputy Minister, it has been my pleasure to serve Canadians in this role. You will hear more from me before my retirement on January 23, 2026. I am proud of having worked with you through a period of unprecedented change and historic growth in investment in the defence of our country. I have no doubt that you will continue to evolve this great work and provide the same dedicated support to Ms. Fox as you have to me.
Change brings both challenges and opportunities, and we are confident that, together, you will continue to deliver excellence in service to Canada.
