Illinois 6 ramp resurfacing begins Sept. 1

PEORIA - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that resurfacing of ramps on Illinois 6 at Knoxville Avenue (Illinois 40) in Peoria and Galena Avenue (Illinois 29) in Mossville begins Sept. 1.

The work will require ramp closures as follows:

  • Sept. 1: The ramp from northbound Illinois 40 to northbound Illinois 6 will close at 7 a.m. for approximately two hours. As work progresses, northbound Illinois 6 past Illinois 40 will close in the afternoon for approximately two hours.
  • Sept. 2: Southbound Illinois 6 at Illinois 29 will close at 7 a.m. for approximately two hours as resurfacing proceeds on the ramp from Illinois 29 to southbound Illinois 6.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
