Question for written answer E-003320/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Cristina Maestre (S&D)
Roblox is one of Europe's most popular video game platforms, with over 25 million active users per day in the EU, many of whom are minors. In recent months, many cases of online grooming and sexual exploitation of minors on the platform have been documented and reported, leading to lawsuits from US families and prosecutors. International alarm increased when the company blocked YouTuber 'Schlep' from Roblox for actively denouncing sexual predators on the platform, raising the question of whether the company is prioritising its reputation over the protection of minors.
The Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065) requires very large online platforms to assess systemic risks to minors (Article 14) and to take effective mitigation measures (Article 35), and empowers the Commission to impose sanctions of up to 6 % of total turnover (Article 74) or even to suspend service in the Union in the case of serious breaches (Article 82).
In light of the above:
Will the Commission launch an investigation to ensure compliance with these obligations, including - if appropriate - sanctions or the suspension of Roblox's activity in the EU?
