GM Delivers Solid Q3 Sales in China as NEVs Reach Record Share

SHANGHAI - General Motors continued to deliver solid results in China in the third quarter, with new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounting for a record-high share of total sales of more than 358,000 units.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) accounted for more than 60 percent of vehicles sold, marking the highest NEV penetration rate ever recorded for the third quarter. The strong performance was driven by compelling new product launches and strong performance from core nameplates, further expanding GM's presence in higher-value segments.

"We are strengthening a competitive and sustainable business in China, guided by our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Chinese customers," said John Roth, GM senior vice president and president of GM China and Asia. "Our improved product mix is building strong momentum for profitable growth across key segments."

Q3 Sales Highlights

The Buick ELECTRA new energy vehicle family continued to build momentum with the launch of the all-electric ELECTRA L7 premium sedan and new variants of the ELECTRA E7 PHEV SUV. The expanded portfolio offers customers a refined, intelligent experience through diverse propulsion choices, new interior and exterior colors, ultra fast-charging capabilities and advanced driver-assistance technologies. The Buick ELECTRA E7 PHEV delivered more than 13,000 units, making it one of the brand's leading nameplates.

The GL8 MPV family, which includes NEV models such as the ELECTRA ENCASA PHEV and BEV, led the premium MPV segment with deliveries of over 22,000 units in Q3. Cumulative GL8 family deliveries surpassed 2.2 million units in August since its inception 26 years ago.

The Cadillac XT5 PHEV, launched in September, further strengthened the XT5 nameplate, which remained Cadillac's best-selling model with sales exceeding 9,000 units. Purpose-built for the Chinese market, the XT5 PHEV brings intelligent luxury to the segment and is the first production hybrid luxury SUV to feature the R7 World Model at delivery, a technology provided by Chinese tech company Momenta to enable its advanced driver assistance system.

In the three-row, six-seat flagship SUV market, the Wuling Xingguang L has made a strong impact since its launch in July. Combining premium comfort with accessible pricing, the PHEV model was well received by customers, with nearly 19,000 units sold in Q3. Also demonstrating strong momentum in the segment, the Huajing S sold nearly 22,000 units in the quarter.

In the small NEV segment, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV family, the world's best-selling ultra-compact electric city-car, delivered more than 34,000 units in Q3. The Wuling Bin Guo topped 57,000 units in sales, including nearly 40,000 units of the Bin Guo Pro, which was launched in Q2 with upgraded space, range and features.
