Applications open for free youth program focused on personal development
April 14, 2026
The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) is bringing back a long-time tradition focused on building confident, resilient young leaders. Now in its 23rd year, the Drug Education for Youth (DEFY) Summer Leadership Camp continues to invest in the next generation by equipping kids with the tools to make positive choices and lead with confidence.
DEFY is a free, week-long prevention program for children ages 9 -12, designed to strengthen decision-making, build character, and promote healthy lifestyles in a supportive and engaging environment.
This year's camp will take place July 20 -24 at the Florida A&M Developmental Research School (FAMU DRS), located at 400 Orange Avenue. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.
Throughout the week, participants will take part in hands-on activities and interactive sessions covering topics such as drug resistance, self-esteem, teamwork, physical fitness, and goal setting. Campers will also build meaningful connections with mentors from TPD, gaining guidance and encouragement from officers committed to making a difference beyond the badge.
Lunch will be provided daily.
Applications are available at Talgov.com/DEFY and will be accepted until July 8 or until capacity is reached.
