(Sacramento, CA) - California Transit Association Executive Director Michael Pimentel issued the following statement today in response to Governor Newsom's Executive Order N-27-26 on public transportation.
"Trump's cuts to transit funding are being matched by the state's own - cuts we have asked the Governor to reverse.
The best way for the Governor to 'assist locally led transit and passenger rail' and 'keep people moving affordably and reliably while continuing to power one of the world's strongest economies' is to honor the state's multibillion-dollar funding commitments to transit."
The Association is leading a coalition of more than 60 affordable housing, local government, transportation, environmental, disability rights, business, and labor organizations, which is calling on Governor Newsom and legislative leaders to honor the state's funding commitments to the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program, Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program, Low Carbon Transit Operations Program, and AB 617 Program.
These programs face cuts of nearly $2 billion annually due to the California Air Resources Board's vote to adopt amendments to the state's Cap-and-Invest program.
