HONOLULU, Nov. 13, 2025 - Hawaiian Electric is continuing to monitor high winds and dry conditions that may affect its service territories. At this time, power remains on in communities with high exposure to wildfire risk. However, weather conditions can change suddenly and Hawaiian Electric could proactively shut off power in at-risk locations, possibly with little or no notice, as part of its Public Safety Power Shutoff program. Customers in PSPS-identified areas are urged to remain prepared and ready for the possibility of extended power outages.
Hawaiian Electric crews are also continuing to respond to outages in other areas that are not related to its PSPS program. This afternoon, power was restored to all customers in the north Kohala area of Hawaii Island following the completion of repairs to damages caused by a fallen tree. As of this release, there are non-PSPS outages affecting around 120 customers on Hawaii Island, in the Waiakeawaena, Mountain View and Glenwood areas.
PSPS determinations can change at any time based on weather conditions. The criteria for determining a shutoff are persistent drought conditions, wind gusts 45 mph and higher, and relative humidity below 45%. The company analyzes data from weather stations and cameras near its infrastructure in high-risk areas with potential for fire spread. Wind gusts can be stronger in higher elevations than in residential areas.
