Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao Holds a Reception in Celebration of the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

On September 12, Ambassador Liu Yantao held a reception in celebration of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides attended and addressed the event. Nearly 500 guests were present, including Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, leaders of major political parties, members of the European Parliament and the Cypriot Parliament, representatives from various sectors of Cypriot society, members of the diplomatic corps in Cyprus, as well as representatives of Chinese enterprises, Chinese community, and Chinese students in Cyprus.

Ambassador Liu said that over the past 76 years, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have created the miracle of advancing Chinese modernization. China firmly upholds the post-war international order and safeguards the multilateral trading system. China has recently proposed the Global Governance Initiative to promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system. China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Cyprus and the EU to build a community with a shared future for humanity.

President Christodoulides said that China stands as a major power with a decisive voice in global affairs, and Cyprus takes great pride in the depth of cooperation between the two countries. Cyprus' commitment to the one-China policy remains a basic principle of its foreign policy, and Cyprus is firmly committed to supporting the further growth of Cyprus-China and EU-China relations.

At the reception, President Christodoulides also visited a photo exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
