Changes proposed to Coordinators’ Meeting

During a recent Asiavision Editors' Meeting, a representative from BTV Bangladesh proposed extending the duration of the annual Coordinators' Meeting from two days to three.

The suggestion was made with the intention of allowing more time for meaningful discussions, deeper collaboration, and comprehensive strategic planning among member broadcasters.

ABU News Director Indra Singh acknowledged the proposal, stating it would be taken into consideration, but emphasised that the Coordinators' Meetings have traditionally been held over two days.

Key details of the 2026 events were also reaffirmed during the discussion. The Asiavision Coordinators' Meeting is currently scheduled for January 21-22 in Kuala Lumpur, at the Perdana Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

The event, themed "Bridging the Asia-Pacific: One Story, Many Voices," will feature specialised training sessions on news exchange best practices, enhanced fact-checking skills, and a comprehensive review of Asiavision's performance over the past year.

Members were strongly encouraged to register early for the meeting to avoid any unforeseen issues.

In addition to this, the second major event, the ABU News Group Meeting, will be held in conjunction with the ABU Global News Forum. This key meeting will be hosted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Sydney, Australia, in September 2026.

The agenda for the News Group Meeting will include discussions on financial flows and strategies to help member broadcasters remain relevant in the evolving news landscape, alongside updates on ABU News' latest initiatives and future plans.

Further details of the Sydney event will be shared once confirmed.
