DNI Gabbard Announces Largest-Ever Intelligence Community Cybersecurity Investment and Modernization Effort

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Thursday, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard shared a look inside the year-one results of the largest-ever Intelligence Community (IC) wide technology and cybersecurity modernization and investment effort, spearheaded by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and carried out in support of President Trump's Cyber Strategy for America.

"Protecting our nation's most sensitive information from those who seek to exploit it, while making sure our intelligence professionals have the tools and access they need to do their jobs, is not optional. It is essential to our national security," said DNI Gabbard. "Over the past year, we have taken meaningful steps to begin fulfilling that responsibility through the largest IC-wide technology investment and modernization effort in history. President Trump's Intelligence Community is moving faster and more decisively on cybersecurity modernization and investments in IT than ever before, delivering stronger defenses, greater efficiency, and real cost savings for the American people."

Below is an unclassified summary of ODNI's year-one efforts to execute this historic technology and cyber security modernization and investment effort:

  • ODNI expertly targeted vulnerabilities and modernized networks and data centers, ultimately increasing resilience against potential adversary attacks and strengthening technology performance.

  • ODNI launched a shared IC-wide repository of cybersecurity authorizations, ending duplicative hardware and software assessment and authorization efforts and streamlining operations.

  • ODNI defined and rolled out the IC's new Zero Trust strategy, shifting to a data-centric security model that protects information regardless of location or network.

  • ODNI expanded the automation of threat hunting across IC networks - dramatically increasing speed and effectiveness of detection and response.

  • ODNI issued new policies and standards that promote reciprocity across the IC and Department of War systems - cutting redundant authorization timelines.

  • ODNI partnered with the Department of War on joint use of classified commercial cloud data centers, cutting costs in half, and ultimately saving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

  • DNI Gabbard directed ODNI's National Counterintelligence and Security Center to proactively combat foreign intelligence actors seeking to engage in cyber-attacks against U.S. interests.

  • ODNI is developing the policy framework, governance, and standards necessary to accelerate AI adoption for cybersecurity and other critical technology, enhancing interoperability across the IC.

Under DNI Gabbard's leadership, the Intelligence Community is advancing the third pillar of President Trump's Cyber Strategy: Modernize and Secure Federal Government Networks. Read more here.
