GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas - The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) Northern Bahamas team, in collaboration with officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force Urban Renewal Division, conducted a community walkabout in the Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama, community on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The URA plays a crucial role in conducting community walkabouts which help to address social challenges that can contribute to crime by offering programmes that support at-risk youth and senior citizens, as well as undertaking projects such as small home repairs.
URA Deputy Director Senator Kirkland Russell emphasised the importance of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and churches joining forces with the URA, stressing that these partnerships are critical to effectively addressing community needs.
During the exercise, the URA team shared information on services offered by the centre, engaged with local businesses and residents and documented community concerns.
At the same time, officers from the URA Police Division enhanced their presence and supported crime prevention efforts by sharing safety tips and distributing informational flyers.
