Investigation report on the Aitken Creek Pipeline Loop incident is now live

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has released its final investigation report on the Aitken Creek Pipeline Loop incident. On November 15, 2025, Westcoast Energy Ltd Partnership's (Westcoast) Aitken Creek Pipeline Loop was struck during excavation work, releasing over 47,000 cubic metres of natural gas. The TSB final investigation report highlights the importance of identifying buried facilities before tools go in the ground.

Although no one was injured during this incident, there was a significant risk that someone could have been seriously hurt or killed. This situation is a clear reminder that the exact locations of underground infrastructure must be confirmed during ground disturbance work.

The CER will share learnings from this incident with its regulated companies to help prevent a similar incident.
