In alignment with the European Union's commitment to advancing sustainable development initiatives in Egypt, EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst met with EU Goodwill Ambassadors in Egypt to discuss their crucial role in enhancing public awareness of environmental and developmental issues. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for expanding cooperation to address various dimensions of sustainable development.
The meeting covered a wide range of priority areas including enhancing cooperation to promote women's empowerment and their role in community development, utilizing culture and the arts as effective tools for communication and awareness, empowering youth to actively participate in shaping a sustainable future and advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency as critical elements of economic development. Additionally, the discussion focused on ensuring food security and the sustainability of natural resources, as well as engaging civil society and the private sector as essential partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Discussions also focused on innovative strategies to enhance public awareness of the significant steps taken by the European Union, in collaboration with the Egyptian government, to achieve the SDGs and to underscore the role of stakeholders in realizing these objectives.
Ambassador Eichhorst expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with the Goodwill Ambassadors, underscoring the primary objective of fostering mutual progress between the European Union and Egypt and enhancing the partnership to benefit citizens. She also highlighted the critical importance of maintaining open communication channels with both the Egyptian government and the local community to ensure sustainable and impactful outcomes.
The EU also reaffirmed its ongoing collaboration with actor Ahmed Magdy, who has significantly contributed to awareness campaigns on water-related issues for over four years.
Actress May Elghety underscored the crucial role of art in raising awareness about societal issues, highlighting the significance of adopting creative strategies such as producing documentaries. These documentaries can effectively illustrate the direct impact of development projects on the lives of Egyptian citizens and present success stories in a manner that inspires various segments of society.
Similarly, actress Yasmina El Abd emphasized the necessity of employing fast-paced, innovative communication methods that resonate with younger generations. She advocated for simplifying dialogue and developing interactive creative tools to enhance awareness and community engagement on sustainable development topics.
Environmental activist Ahmed El Droubi highlighted the roles of diverse institutions-including the private sector, international organizations, and civil society-in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He stressed the importance of fostering meaningful dialogue on policies that can deliver tangible benefits to Egyptian citizens.
During Cairo Water Week, the European Union announced the appointment of actresses May Elghety and Yasmina El Abd, alongside environmental activist Ahmed El Droubi, as new EU Goodwill Ambassadors in Egypt.
