The University Foundations Program and the Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that, as a result of a competitive national search, Adrian Kane will assume the role of University Foundations director this summer.
Kane has been a member of the Boise State University faculty since 2006. A Professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages, he received his Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside with an emphasis on twentieth and twenty-first century Latin American literature, and a secondary concentration in Mexican and Central American fiction. He also holds an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University in New York.
Kane's scholarly work has focused on twentieth and twenty-first century Latin American fiction. He is the author of Central American Avant-Garde Narrative: Literary Innovation and Cultural Change 1926-1936 (2014) and the editor of The Natural World in Latin American Literatures: Ecocritical Essays on Twentieth Century Writing (2010). He served as Chair of the Department of World Languages from 2013 to 2019.
Kane has taught the 200-level University Foundations course numerous times, has been a member of the General Education Committee since 2017, and was a Provost Fellow in 2024-2025. He has served as a UF Faculty Associate since 2022, leading professional development opportunities and supporting other faculty teaching in the University Foundations program.
Kane is excited to lead the exceptionally dedicated University Foundations faculty, staff, and General Education Committee members. He looks forward to continuing the good work that has been done to continually strengthen University Foundations since its inception, and is delighted to explore new opportunities to further distinguish general education at Boise State.
The Office of the Provost thanks the screening committee for participating in an incredibly well-run and intentional search process: Dan Sanford (Chair), Steve Crowley, Andy Giacomazzi, Regina Jenkins, Kathrine Johnson, Ti Macklin, Jenn Snow, and Kay Wingert, with Tamara Gandenberger providing exceptional logistical support for the search. Appreciation to Thomas Kimble for support to the search process.
Finally, a special thank you to Candyce Reynolds, who has ably served as director for the University Foundations Program since 2021 and will be transitioning to a well-earned retirement at the end of the spring semester.
