Weekend Closure Planned for U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) August 21-24

Northbound & Southbound Lanes Closed between Cesar Chavez St. to 17th St.

San Francisco County ― Caltrans will reduce lanes along the SB & NB U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) in the city of San Francisco for the entire weekend of August 21-24, to complete crucial median road work as part of the Fab 4 Hospital Curve Rehabilitation projects which began in Fall 2025.

Lane reductions will begin Friday August 21, at 11 p.m. when two northbound lanes and two southbound lanes between Cesar Chavez to 17th street will be closed. These lanes will reopen by Monday August 24, at 6 a.m. During the weekend, two lanes in the northbound and two in the southbound lanes will remain open to the traveling public. Motorists are advised to avoid driving NB and SB U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve).

Motorists should use the I-280 as an alternate route traveling southbound to the peninsula and south bay and traveling northbound to downtown, or to the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, to avoid the work zone and traffic delays. Public transportation should be seriously considered in place of driving.

Looking ahead, motorists can expect a series of full freeway closures along the U.S. 101 Bayshore (Hospital Curve) where the freeway will be entirely closed to traffic between Cesar Chavez to 17th to continue the necessary road work.

• September 18-21: NB Cesar Chavez to 17th St.

Detour Map for Motorists Traveling to and from San Francisco Airport and Rental Car Center, the Peninsula and the South Bay

A dedicated detour map has been prepared for travelers departing from and to the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and the SFO Rental Car Center, as well as for motorists coming from the peninsula and the South Bay who are heading toward the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and/or San Francisco destinations.

The map illustrates the preferred routing during the weekend closure.
