Boston Resident Arrested on Drug and Firearm Charges in Porter Sq

Cambridge Police charged Robert Sullivan, 42, unhoused with a last known address in Boston, following an arrest in Porter Square on Thursday for multiple offenses related to the unlawful possession of a firearm, trafficking of illegal narcotics, and stolen property.

On Thursday, May 14th shortly after 10pm, patrol officers in Porter Square observed a male, later identified as Sullivan, with a bike that had been recently reported stolen. Officers stopped Sullivan to investigate the bike theft and subsequently confirmed the bike was in-fact stolen. During the interaction, Sullivan was frisked for weapons after informing officers he had a pocketknife. This frisk located a loaded, 9mm handgun, a crime as Sullivan does not have a license to carry a firearm.

Once in custody, a search of Sullivan's bag yielded large quantities of substances that are suspected to be heroin / fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and prescription narcotics, much of which was packaged in a manner consistent with street level drug sales. Additionally, his bag contained an electric stun gun along with identification documents for another person.

Sullivan has been arraigned in Cambridge District Court on multiple charges including:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with a Large Capacity Feeding Device.
  • Trafficking of a Class A substance (Suspected Fentanyl / Heroin)
  • Trafficking of a Class B substance (Suspected Methamphetamine and Suspected Crack Cocaine)
  • Possession Class E (Prescription Pills)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Stolen Bicycle)
  • Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (Electric Stun Gun)

Prosecution of this case will be managed by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office

This is the 3rd arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm in North Cambridge in just over a week. On May 7th, Brett Parnham, 49, of Lowell was placed under arrest in Porter Sq. and on May 11th, Kyle Evans, 39, of Somerville was arrested on Rindge Ave.
