Celebrating YKHC Health Fair success

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation held a Community Health Fair at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital Gathering Place on July 29, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The goal of the fair was to improve customer access to care by providing an opportunity to take advantage of our convenient same-day services. The event was largely successful and well-attended by both employees and the general public.

The Office of Environmental Health & Engineering distributed 60 indoor air toolkits, which contain a carbon monoxide detector, air quality monitor, woodstove thermometer, moisture meter, insect sticky trap, pillow encasements and a green cleaning/mold removal kit. The team also helped to make pedestrian visibility easier by distributing 100 reflector kits for backpacks.

The Tobacco Prevention & Cessation program set up three tobacco cessation enrollment appointments and engaged with 72 people who played the educational game, learning about the harms of nicotine and benefits of quitting tobacco.

The Medicaid Enrollment team distributed 9 applications, with one person returning a complete application. The team also engaged with two individuals that needed further assistance with the application process during the event.

The Diabetes Prevention & Control team was able to complete diabetes screening & monitoring for 48 individuals during the event and three people who found out about the weekly Wellness Wednesday event came to the event later that evening.

The Diagnostic Services team completed 3 mammograms during the event and connected three others with a case manager to schedule mammograms at a later date. This event also served as a time for the team to meet with social workers and provide them with same-day cancer screening literature that they can share with customers.

The Immunizations team administered three PCV 20 vaccines, a vaccine that protects against 20 types of pneumococcal bacteria and is a one-time shot for people over the age of 50 that will protect you for the rest of your life. The team also conducted 4 tuberculosis tests.

The Cancer Screening Outreach team worked together with the Outpatient Clinic and Diagnostic Imaging teams to conduct 2 same-day cervical cancer screenings and previously mentioned 3 mammograms. The team distributed 53 booklets to customers that outline the same-day cancer screening options we offer at YKHC.

YKHC thanks everyone who attended the fair and worked at a table to provide services. We will continue to host community health fairs in the future and we hope to see you there!
