The new hydrogen peroxide megaplant in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China, has officially started production under Fuhua's operation and Evonik's licensing technology.
Leshan, Sichuan Province, China. Production has begun at the new hydrogen peroxide megaplant operated by Fuhua and licensed by Evonik in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China. With an annual capacity of 200 kilotons, the facility is one of the largest in the region for industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). Operations began on June 18, 2026, with in-specification production achieved in just a few days. Now, the plant is ready to serve the regional Chinese market as well as to supply H₂O₂ to the partners' joint venture, Evonik Fuhua New Materials, for further purification into specialty grades.
The project was completed only 2.5 years after Fuhua and Evonik signed the licensing agreement in November 2023. In addition to its proprietary H₂O₂ technology, Evonik supplied key process equipment, catalysts, and working solution for the facility. Technical experts from China, Germany, and the United States supported the engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
Michael Träxler, head of Evonik's Active Oxygens business line, stated: "The successful startup of this plant demonstrates our ability to support customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from licensing and engineering to commissioning and production. Completing a facility of this scale within the planned timeline and budget is an achievement to be proud of. It underscores that the collaboration between Evonik and Fuhua is a successful formula."
"This startup represents an important milestone for Fuhua and validates the excellent collaboration between our companies," said Fuhua Chairman Zhang Hua. "By combining Fuhua's local knowledge and networks with Evonik's leading technology and operational expertise, we are now ready to serve the growing demand for H₂O₂ in China and have created a strong foundation for future growth."
The new facility will supply industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide to customers in the merchant market while also supporting the recently established Evonik Fuhua New Materials joint venture. There, hydrogen peroxide from the Leshan plant will be further purified into specialty grades used in demanding applications such as electronics manufacturing and food safety.
