CHICAGO - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement applauding the election of Tom Kotarac as Chair of the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA):
"There are few people I have met in my career that are more committed to improving our transportation systems than Tom Kotarac. Tom is a dedicated public servant who knows how to yield results by working across the aisle and building regional partnerships that support Illinois' transit projects-all for the benefit of the Illinois commuters that rely on our roads, rail, and airports.
"There is no one better to lead the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority."
Kotarac is currently the Senior Vice President of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and leads the organization's transportation and infrastructure work. Before working with the Civic Committee, Kotarac was the Deputy Executive Director of Policy and Programming for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Previously, he served as Projects Director in Senator Durbin's office from 2007 to 2012, and as Senior Policy Advisor for Senator Durbin from 2012 to 2015. He received a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
