GREENSBORO, NC (May 7, 2026) - Greensboro Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred earlier this evening.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to an armed subject call at the Walgreens at 901 East Bessemer Avenue. While en route, officers were informed that the subject left in a black SUV and was heading north on Summit Avenue.

Officers then observed the suspect's vehicle pull into a parking lot in the 1100 block of Summit Avenue. As the SUV then left the lot, an officer pulled behind the suspect's vehicle and attempted a traffic stop by activating blue lights with a short siren burst.

The SUV then accelerated and drove off.

The officer immediately deactivated blue lights, chose not to pursue, and continued to travel at approximately the speed limit, losing sight of the SUV. As the officer continued on Summit, they came upon the scene where the SUV had crashed, ejecting the driver. The SUV had come to a rest on Phillips Avenue, on the bridge over US 29.

The driver did not survive their injuries. Their identification is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

The department's Crash Reconstruction Unit responded and is investigating.

After the crash, officers were informed the suspect had committed an armed robbery at the Walgreens before fleeing the business. Additional details are not immediately available for release at this time.
