Music will move beyond the concert hall and into the community this November as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Department of Music presents four chamber concerts at venues across Edwardsville.
Scheduled for Nov. 8-11, the Chamber Series invites audiences to experience music in familiar gathering places, from local churches to the public library.
The series builds on an initiative launched academic year 2025-26. This academic year, the department is expanding its offerings to include both fall and spring concerts, bringing more performances off campus.
Marc Schapman, DMA, Chair, Department of Music, hopes to raise community awareness of the upcoming performances. "One of our goals in the Department of Music is to create more opportunities for our students to share their talents beyond the walls of SIUE," said Schapman. "Our Chamber Series allows us to bring high-quality musical performances directly into the Edwardsville community and continue to build meaningful connections. We want our community to see the SIUE Music Department as an important part of the cultural life of the surrounding area."
The November schedule includes:
Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. - First Presbyterian Church, 3601 Ridgeview Road.
Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. - Eden Church, 903 North Second Street.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. - Edwardsville Public Library, 112 South Kansas Street.
Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. - First Christian Church, 310 South Main Street.
All four concerts take place in Edwardsville.
By bringing performances to neighborhood venues, the series creates opportunities for residents to connect with SIUE's music department close to home. For audiences, it offers four evenings to step away from the everyday and discover music around the corner.
