The evening highlighted the continued growth and influence of the Illinois College Society, a leadership giving community whose members contribute $1,000 annually or $100,000 over a lifetime. Their support plays a vital role in expanding scholarships, strengthening programs and ensuring students have access to opportunities that define an Illinois College education.
The Alumni Association Awards recognize individuals whose achievements and service reflect the values of Illinois College and its mission to prepare students for lives of leadership and service. Alumni Association President Kevin Lister '81 recognized each of the award winners for their outstanding accomplishments.
Katie Miller Astroth '09 was named Young Alumna of the Year. A principal with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., Astroth has built a career in environmental science and regulatory compliance while remaining actively engaged with the College. She credits her Illinois College experience, including hands-on research and faculty mentorship, with shaping her professional path.
Luke Scroggins-Zellers '08 received the Young Alumnus Award. A certified public accountant and director of finance at Family Service Center in Springfield, he has demonstrated leadership across nonprofit and community organizations. A first-generation college graduate, he remains deeply connected to Illinois College through service and engagement.
Paul '09 and Leah Reuschel Hamilton '09 were honored as Ambassadors, recognizing their ongoing commitment to student success. Paul serves as an associate professor of biology, mentoring undergraduate researchers, while Leah leads the Chesley Health and Wellness Center, supporting student wellbeing through counseling and campus-wide initiatives.
Helen Cole Kuhn was named Friend of the College for her lasting contributions to Illinois College and the Jacksonville community. A former member of the Registrar's Office, Kuhn dedicated her career to supporting students and strengthening campus operations, leaving a legacy that continues to benefit the College.
Tom '80 and Ann Bishop Prather '80 received the Distinguished Service Award for their lifelong dedication to Illinois College and their community. The Prathers shared their story during the Illinois College Society Celebration, reflecting on the Hilltop, where they first met as students. Tom built a meaningful career in banking, and Ann devoted 30 years to teaching preschool. They continue to make a difference as engaged alumni, volunteers, community leaders and proud members of the Illinois College Society. Their experiences at IC helped shape a lasting commitment to service, leadership and giving back.
In addition to recognizing award recipients, the event celebrated the collective contributions of Illinois College Society members, whose giving continues to shape the future of the institution. Since its founding in 2017, the Society has grown into an impactful community committed to advancing the College's mission and expanding opportunities for students every year.
Student speaker Kassie Weideman '26 reflected on the direct impact of donor support, sharing how scholarships and campus opportunities have shaped her academic journey and future goals. Kassie graduated with a degree in criminal justice, completed an internship with the Illinois State Police and will begin her career with ISP as a state trooper this spring.
As Illinois College approaches its bicentennial in 2029, the strength of the Illinois College Society underscores the commitment of the IC community and the momentum driving the institution forward. Through the continued generosity of alumni and friends, the College continues to empower students and create a future defined by purpose and possibility.
