During Drinking Water Week, Stafford County is proud to spotlight the dedicated water professionals who ensure the availability of a critically needed resource-clean, safe drinking water. Water plays a vital role in the lives of Stafford's residents, keeping them healthy, hydrated and having good hygiene. Additionally, tap water delivers public health protection, safeguards structures and lives from fire and helps support Stafford's economy. In addition to providing high-quality drinking water, Stafford County is committed to protecting its natural water resources, and the public is invited to assist with that mission.
In 2025 alone, Stafford County's Utilities Department delivered approximately 10 million gallons of water every single day, totaling over 4 billion gallons annually, to more than 125,000 residents and businesses. This enormous task and high volume of water is supported by a robust system that includes two water treatment facilities, Lake Mooney and Smith Lake, water tanks, nearly 7,000 fire hydrants and over 700 miles of water lines. The Utilities Department is staffed by a dedicated team that works tirelessly to maintain the vast infrastructure required to carry water to and from homes and businesses.
Behind it all is a team of skilled professionals-from engineers and administrators to plant operators to maintenance crews-who work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to ensure the delivery of high-quality water to the community. Their dedication ensures that every time you turn on the tap, clean water is there. Their unwavering commitment is the backbone of Stafford's water management system, and the County is deeply thankful for these unsung heroes. Stafford Utilities remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting and delivering one of the most precious resources to its customers: safe, reliable drinking water.
