ODOT shares plans for maintenance work at portion of northbound I-35

June 4, 2026

The following advisory information has been shared with the City of Norman from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation:

Beginning Wednesday, June 10, 2026, The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) advises motorists of scheduled overnight maintenance work along northbound Interstate 35 (I-35) for two nights, which will result in temporary traffic impacts and lane restrictions from the South Canadian River bridge and extending north beyond the State Highway 9 eastbound off ramp.

The planned work will consist of milling and overlaying the northbound mainline pavement on I-35. Construction and maintenance crews will be working overnight hours from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night to minimize disruptions to daytime traffic and enhance safety for both motorists and workers.

During the maintenance operation, drivers traveling through the area should expect periodic lane closures, reduced speeds, and the presence of construction personnel and equipment. Motorists are encouraged to remain alert, follow posted traffic control devices, and allow additional travel time when passing through the work zone.

In addition to the overnight lane restrictions on I-35, ODOT advises that on the evening of Wednesday, June 11, 2026, the eastbound State Highway 9 entrance ramp from northbound I-35 will be temporarily closed for a portion of the work period. The closure is necessary to safely accommodate construction activities and equipment operating in the area.

Motorists who regularly use the SH-9 eastbound ramp are encouraged to plan alternate routes and remain attentive to posted detour signage. Access will be restored as soon as work is completed and conditions allow.

The scheduled maintenance is part of ODOT's ongoing commitment to preserving and improving Oklahoma's transportation infrastructure. These improvements help ensure safer travel conditions, extend the life of roadway assets, and support the efficient movement of people and goods throughout the region.

ODOT recognizes that construction activities can create temporary inconveniences and appreciate the public's patience and cooperation while crews complete this important work. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution in work zones, eliminate distractions, and remain mindful of changing traffic patterns.

Weather conditions may impact the schedule. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances arise, work activities may be delayed or rescheduled.

For the latest information on highway conditions, construction updates, and travel advisories, motorists are encouraged to monitor official ODOT communication channels before traveling.

Safety Reminders for Work Zones

  • Slow down and obey all posted speed limits.
  • Stay alert and watch for workers and equipment.
  • Merge early when approaching lane closures.
  • Maintain a safe following distance between vehicles.
