The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, met today, 4 December, with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, during which both noted that Spain and Morocco are enjoying the best moment in their bilateral relations.

The meeting, held at the Palace of Viana before both ministers went to Moncloa Palace to take part in the High-Level Meeting between Spain and Morocco, made it possible to address the details and implementation of the agreements that Albares and Bourita would later sign.

These agreements cover issues as significant as Feminist Diplomacy, Cooperation between Diplomatic Schools and the exchange of young diplomats between the two countries.

During the meeting, the ministers also expressed their intention to renew their commitment to the path set out in the 2022 roadmap and to continue deepening a relationship of friendship and good neighbourliness that they hope will also extend to the rest of the African continent. In this regard, the two ministers highlighted the joint organisation of the 2030 Football World Cup with Portugal as an important incentive, full of opportunities in the near future.

Spain remains Morocco's leading trading partner. In terms of trade volume, Morocco was the third-largest destination for Spanish exports in 2024, reaching €12.859 billion, behind only the United States and the United Kingdom. Morocco also ranked fourth among Spain's suppliers of goods from outside the EU, with €9.834 billion.

Other points highlighted included the frequency of high-level meetings between Albares and Bourita, who recently met in the context of the Conference on Feminist Diplomacies in Paris and on the sidelines of the last plenary session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, held in New York this past September.
