City of Fayetteville launches community food drive
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn has joined the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger, a national coalition of more than 500 mayors from across the country working with the Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign to strengthen access to healthy food for children and families.
As part of this commitment, the City of Fayetteville is immediately announcing a citywide non-perishable food drive to support local food pantries and raise awareness about food insecurity in our community.
"I am proud to stand with 568 mayors across the country in the shared mission to make sure no child goes hungry," Rawn said. "Ending hunger requires community-level collaboration, and I'm grateful for the work our partners do every day to support families in need."
Beginning today, Oct. 29, residents are encouraged to drop off donations of shelf-stable food items at the following locations:
Collection bins will be available during regular business hours. All donations will go directly to local food pantries serving Fayetteville residents. Suggested donations include canned proteins (chicken, tuna), canned fruit and vegetables, flour and sugar, peanut butter, cereal and other shelf-stable items.
At last count by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2023, 13.5% of U.S. households were food insecure. In Arkansas, that household number is highest in the nation at 18.5%.
"Even in a city as vibrant and caring as Fayetteville, too many families face tough choices at the grocery store," Rawn said. "This food drive is one small way we can support our neighbors and remind families that their community cares."

Every donation, no matter how small, helps strengthen the network of care that makes Fayetteville a place where everyone can count on their community.
