President John Dramani Mahama has assured commuters and motorists using the Kasoa-Winneba corridor that the persistent traffic congestion on the stretch will soon be a thing of the past.
Speaking during a project inspection of the ongoing dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba Road, the President acknowledged the daily frustrations of travellers but emphasized that the "inconvenience is a necessary precursor to a world-class road network."
"I can understand the frustration of commuters on this road, but like the Minister said, help is on the way," President Mahama stated.
He revealed that a middle concourse would be opened within the next three to four weeks to allow traffic bound for Cape Coast, Winneba, and Mankesim to bypass side roads, significantly easing the current bottleneck at Budumburam.
While the contract was originally scheduled for completion in March 2027, the President and the Roads Minister announced an ambitious new target to open the entire stretch from Kasoa to Winneba by the end of this year or the first quarter of next year.
President Mahama also highlighted the broader vision for the region, noting that the project has been extended to include the dualisation of the Winneba to Mankessim stretch and the awarding of the Mankessim to Cape Coast road.
"Central Region is an attractive place for investment and tourism. If we do this road network, it will allow investors to open factories in this corridor, creating jobs for the local people," the President added.
