ATLANTA (August 28, 2026) - This week, Senate President Pro Tempore Larry Walker III (R-Perry) joined members of the Middle Georgia legislative delegation for a regional listening day in Perry, bringing together local leaders and community stakeholders to discuss priorities facing Middle Georgia ahead of the 2027 Legislative Session.
Hosted in partnership with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission, the listening day provided local leaders with an opportunity to speak directly with members of the legislative delegation about the challenges facing their communities.
"Some of the most important work we do as legislators happens long before we ever cast a vote at the Capitol," said President Pro Tempore Walker. "Today was about listening to the people who are on the ground every day to understand what is working and where the state can be a better partner. We're strongest when we work together, regardless of whether we are talking about our schools, economic development across the state or Robins Air Force Base. I appreciate everyone who took the time to speak candidly with us today. We will take what we heard back to the Capitol and look for practical solutions that deliver results for Middle Georgians."
Throughout the morning, the delegation heard from representatives of Middle Georgia State University, Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Economic Development, the Houston County Board of Commissioners, the River Valley Regional Commission, the Robins Air Force Base 21st Century Partnership, the City of Pineview and the Houston County School District.
The listening day brought together legislators and stakeholders representing Houston, Dooly, Pulaski and Wilcox counties. President Pro Tempore Walker opened and closed the event, with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission facilitating the discussions.
Feedback gathered during the event will help inform the delegation's work as lawmakers continue their work under the Gold Dome.
