FWPD reports offenses decreased 16.4% in their Q3 crime report

The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) reported a 16.4% decrease in offenses for the third quarter of 2025, with 12,143 offenses compared to 14,523 offenses in Q3 2024. Crimes against persons decreased 10.9%, crimes against property decreased 20.5% and crimes against society decreased 3.3%.

The FWPD has used the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) methodology for crime reports since 2006. NIBRS compiles detailed reports on two types of crime offenses: Group A offenses and Group B offenses. The groupings are based on the amount of reporting required for each.

The following criteria are used to determine whether a crime should be designated as a Group A offense:

  • The seriousness or significance of the offense.
  • The frequency or volume of its occurrence.
  • The prevalence of the offense nationwide.
  • The probability of the offense being brought to law enforcement's attention.
  • The likelihood that law enforcement is the best channel for collecting data regarding the offense.
  • The burden placed on law enforcement in collecting data on the offense.
  • The national statistical validity and usefulness of the collected data.
  • The national UCR Program's responsibility is to make crime data available not only to law enforcement but also to others having a legitimate interest in it.

Group A offenses are categorized into one of three categories: crimes against persons, crimes against property and crimes against society. To learn more about the differences between NIBRS and the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), the formerly used UCR methodology, please visit fbi.gov/services/nibrs.

Crime prevention strategies commanders in each patrol division take preventative steps to address increased crime such as aggravated assaults, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. All patrol divisions have strategic operating funds (SOF) used to address crime in their areas. Commanders work with the Real Time Crime Center, crime analysts and Neighborhood Police Officers (NPOs) to identify emerging trends and hotspot areas.

Commanders track previous crime trends and assign officers to prevent crime from occurring. They are in constant collaboration with other units in the department - including Gang, Narcotics, Vice, Homicide, Robbery and Family Violence - to reduce and solve crime.

In 2021, the FWPD introduced the #FortWorthSafe Initiative, which is a crime reduction strategy focused on violent crimes. Goals and objectives include:

  • Decrease overall violent crime in the city by 10% within 12 months.
  • Focus on decreasing homicides, aggravated assaults and robberies.
  • Improve neighborhood conditions in areas experiencing the most violent crime.
  • Improve police-community relations and communication.

The FWPD publishes quarterly crime reports to catalog crime statistics and provide a comprehensive review of department activities, crime rates and highlighted stories of community interest. View the full Q3 Crime Report and other reports here.
