The initial report also indicated that a gunshot had been heard. The initial investigation shows that Campbell entered the business and immediately ran out with a firearm he had not purchased. Estebanez and another employee chased the suspect for several blocks. At some point, Estebanez fired one gunshot into the air, not directed at Campbell or anyone else. Campbell subsequently stopped running and surrendered. MVPD Detectives are still investigating this incident. Both firearms involved were seized as evidence. Aaron Campbell is a 33-year-old resident of Mountain View. He was booked in the Santa Clara County jail on charges of Penal Code 29800(a)(1) - felon in possession of a firearm, and Penal Code 487(d)(2) - theft of a firearm. MVPD will be forwarding a request to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office to review potential charges against Edgar Estebanez for Penal Code 246.3, negligent discharge of a firearm.
