Pasadena, CA - The City of Pasadena is celebrating a major milestone in its expanding life sciences and innovation economy as the Pasadena BioCollaborative Incubator (PBC) marks 22 years of operation and welcomes its 100th company. This achievement reflects Pasadena's long-standing commitment to supporting cutting-edge research, fostering entrepreneurial growth, and strengthening the region's position as a hub for scientific advancement.
Over more than two decades, the incubator has played a vital role in Pasadena's economic landscape by providing laboratory space, hands-on training, and support for emerging biotech and environmental technology companies. These efforts have helped cultivate local talent, attract high-impact startups, and contribute to the city's innovation pipeline.
VelvEtch becomes the 100th company to join the incubator, advancing new bio-compatible polymers designed for applications ranging from drug delivery systems to implantable sensors and neural interface technologies. The company's arrival highlights the growing concentration of early-stage scientific enterprises choosing Pasadena as the place to develop transformative technologies.
This milestone will be recognized during Innovate Pasadena's Connect Week on April 15, in partnership with the City of Pasadena's Economic Development Division, along with neighboring tech and development partners. The event will bring together entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, and community leaders to showcase the momentum of Pasadena's life sciences sector and its expanding network of innovators.
"Pasadena's life sciences sector continues to be a cornerstone of the city's innovation economy," said Economic Development Director David Klug. "The Pasadena BioCollaborative Incubator plays a critical role in supporting early-stage companies and advancing breakthrough technologies. Celebrating this milestone during Connect Week highlights the strength of Pasadena's innovation community and the partnerships that help it grow."
"This is an exciting moment not only for our incubator, but for the broader scientific community we serve," said Eric Duyshart, President of the Pasadena BioCollaborative Incubator. "We are grateful for companies and institutional partners that have been a part of our journey of supporting entrepreneurs and training individuals pursuing careers in a laboratory."
