MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Novant Health is expanding access to comprehensive breast health services in the Charleston area with the addition of Christina Wolchok, DO, a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, at Novant Health East Cooper Center for Women's Health.
Christina Wolchok, DO
The center, which opened this summer in Mount Pleasant, offers a holistic approach to women's health services. The modern, convenient location is designed around the needs of women, bringing together breast imaging, breast surgery, OB/GYN and pelvic health under one roof. Wolchok provides comprehensive breast care for patients with breast cancer, high-risk lesions, increased or hereditary breast cancer risk, abnormal breast imaging, and benign breast disease. She also offers an array of breast surgical procedures including lumpectomy, mastectomy, lymph node surgery, port placements, oncoplastic surgery and hidden scar technique.
Wolchok's arrival comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about breast health and recommended screenings. While October brings increased attention to the topic, her role as director of Novant Health Breast Program reinforces Novant Health East Cooper Medical Center's commitment to making women's healthcare more accessible throughout the year.
"We want to make it easier for women to prioritize breast health all year long," said Kirsten Royster, president of Novant Health's Charleston area. "Dr. Wolchok's expertise, together with advanced breast imaging and diagnostics in one convenient location, gives women in our community timely access to the care they need. Whether a woman is due for her routine mammogram or facing a breast cancer diagnosis, we want to make the next step in her care as seamless as possible."
"A breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, and every patient comes to us with different concerns and priorities," said Wolchok. "My goal is to create an environment where patients feel heard, informed and empowered. Through shared decision-making and a multidisciplinary approach, we will develop an individualized treatment plan while making sure patients understand not only what we're recommending, but why."
The Charleston Breast Center offers screening and diagnostic 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsy, breast MR services and contrast-enhanced mammography. Patients can also access genetic screening and analysis to better understand factors that may affect their personal breast cancer risk.
Wolchok joins Novant Health after practicing in Connecticut and brings specialized training in breast surgical oncology to the Lowcountry. She completed her general surgery residency in New York and a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Wolchok is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. Her approach combines evidence-based care, surgical innovation and individualized treatment with an emphasis on helping patients understand their diagnosis and options.
Women who are due for a screening mammogram can now get started more easily.

Wolchok said her goal is to remove unnecessary barriers so women can receive timely screening and, when needed, quickly connect with diagnostic and specialty breast care.
"Early detection saves lives," Wolchok said. "Breast cancer can develop without symptoms, which is why routine mammogram screening is so important. I encourage women to understand their personal risk, know their family history and talk with their healthcare providers about the screening approach that is right for them."
